I was honored to join Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania in breaking ground on the new Veterans Grove in Harrisburg, which will offer housing and support services for our area’s homeless veterans, with 15 tiny homes and a community center.
I hosted the Hershey Bears at the Capitol to recognize their 2023 Calder Cup National Championship. Congratulations to the players, coaches and staff who brought home the league-leading 12th Calder Cup in franchise history!
My office was honored to join area business Phoenix Contact as they recently announced a donation to the Capital Area Intermediate Unit to expand their existing Think BIG science, technology, engineering and math program to even more elementary schools in the region.
I was honored to sponsor a Senate resolution recognizing October 2023 as “Italian-American Heritage Month” in Pennsylvania and celebrate this week with other legislators and several area Italian heritage organizations.
I had the privilege of recognizing my constituent, Greg Sirb, upon his retirement after nearly 34 years as Executive Director of the PA State Athletic Commission. Greg has regulated more than two thousand boxing events and 1,100 MMA events. He’s a true champion in the combat sports industry, not just in PA but nationally.
I recently commemorated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) with a Senate resolution. SERS currently serves nearly 240,000 members and distributed about $3.9 billion in pension funds to retirees last year.
I recently joined Lower Paxton Township and state officials in breaking ground on $1 million in improvements to Brightbill Park, including a new ADA-compliant playground, a “sound garden” with outdoor musical instruments for children, and a plaza with tables and benches.
County elected officials and I got a preview of the upcoming Dauphin County 4-H Fair to be held August 12 at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds. Thanks to the Coble family for hosting us at their Bicentennial Farm (c. 1790) south of Hershey.
I recently joined The Hershey Company in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hershey’s Chocolate World. The Senate had adopted my resolution designating June 30, 2023 as Hershey’s Chocolate World Day” in Pennsylvania, which I presented during their 50th Birthday Block Party Bash. Congratulations on this milestone!
I had the privilege of welcoming the 3-time, consecutive PIAA AA Boys’ Volleyball State Champion Lower Dauphin High School team to the Capitol and recognizing their achievement with a Senate citation.
The Senate adopted my unanimous consent resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of Hershey’s Chocolate World and designating June 30, 2023 as “Hershey’s Chocolate World Day” in Pennsylvania. The Hershey Company directly employs more than 6,500 Pennsylvanians in factories in multiple counties and maintains its corporate headquarters here in the 15th senatorial district.
Hershey’s Chocolate World was founded on June 30, 1973 to offer a behind-the-scenes look into the making of their world famous chocolate and confections. It has grown over the past 50 years with a variety of attractions and activities, becoming the world’s most visited factory experience. It receives more than 3.2 million visitors each year, employs 600 people and hosts Hershey’s largest candy store in the world.

I visited the Grantville Volunteer Fire Company in East Hanover Township to check out the new equipment they acquired through state grants for which I had advocated. I’m always glad to help our first responders better provide emergency services in our local communities.
I had the pleasure of attending an event at the Governor’s Residence to recognize the passage of Act 1 of 2023, which eliminates costs including co-pays, deductibles or co-insurance for breast cancer screenings and BRCA-related genetic testing and counseling for women at high-risk.
I hosted several PIAA 2A state champions from Bishop McDevitt High School – Boys’ Swim Team Gold Medalists in the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay, as well as 285 lb. wrestling champion Riley Robell. Bishop Gainer of the Harrisburg Diocese was on hand for the recognition, serving as the Senate’s guest chaplain and offering the session’s opening prayer. Congratulations to these Crusaders, and I wish them all continued success!

On Monday, the Lower Dauphin High School Field Hockey Team was recognized for their PIAA Class 3A State Championship. On Wednesday, the Central Dauphin High School Girls’ Soccer Team was recognized for their PIAA Class 4A State Championship. Congratulations to both these teams, and I wish all the players and coaches continued success, both on and off the field.
